Hat Making with Suzie Mahony.
On the 26th of September our Ty group did a work shop with Suzie Mahony, making hats. Before she let us make our hats she explained to us all the fabrics and where they come from. She gave us examples of pieces that she had made for her own collection for weddings, races etc.
After this we were asked to pick a base for our hats and whatever we wanted to put on our hats. We had to see on our pieces which was quite funny to watch because not everyone was able to sew and other people getting pricked with sewing needles.
For my piece I stuck to the colour scheme of black and pink. I chose pink netting and black and pink pieces of fabric. I plated my fabric pieces and made them into a flower shape from which I sewed onto my hat base. I then had to see on netting which was very difficult. I did not think the hat look complete so I placed a pink feather into my hat to contrast with the netting.
I really enjoyed the hat making as it was a bit unusual but fun at the same time. Suzie was so funny and I would definitely recommend other people to try it out. It looked like our group enjoyed it as well as we were always laughing and trying to come up with new 'unique' ideas.
