Fainne
On the 11th of April our Transition year group participated in a course to receive the Fainne. The Fainne is a gold ring that you wear to show that you can be spoken Irish to and you will be able to respond. To receive our Fainne we had to present a book of the work we had been doing over the past few weeks. We used Duchas.ie school collection to find work what our grandparents had done in national school. They wrote stories about different topics about the area they lived in which they received from elderly in their area. Our first assignment was to hand up work that our grandparents had done. Our second assignment was to find stories wrote about a given topic in areas such as Eyrecourt, Portumna, Tynagh, Killeen and Abbey as well as Donegal schools. All these stories were presented in our book of work which was given to the examiners. For our final assignment to receive the Fainne we had to talk about a topic which we got from our grandparents in Irish in front of the class and the examiners. I spoke about my grand uncle's school life in Woodford. I talked about how they used to write on slates and how they had to bring in turf in the Winter to keep the school warm. I also talked about what his teacher was like and what they learned about while in school. Our hard work payed off as we all received the Fainne.
