Poetry Slam
On the 16th of November, a member from Inspireland named Stephen Murray came to our school to teach us about the art of poetry and what it consists of. He started off the workshop by introducing himself and what he was going to do. We started off with games. The first game we played we had to write down everything we would in a situation he gave us, where we did not like someone. I though that this was unusual but fun. He did this to show us how people express their anger through poetry and how easy it can be for us to do it. Then we were told to say what we like and dislike about girls and boys. I thought it was interesting to hear other peoples interpretation of their thoughts on boys and girls. We were then asked to write a poem with each line starting with "I am". This was to recognise what kind of person we are and how to put it in a poem. Stephen then showed us how someone expressed themselves through poetry in a video form. It was a heart filled video about social injustice and bullying and how he interpreted it not showing that it was a basic poem. For our workshop finish we had to submit a poem to Inspireland. It could be about anything and he encouraged us to talk honestly and to be real in what we were saying. I wrote mine about popularity among teenagers and how they portray each other in 2018.
I would recommend this anyone as it was very fun and enjoyable. Stephen was lots of fun and not serious about poetry and didn't act like a teacher. He showed us how to have fun with poetry and to get inspired about anything even if we are told not to.
