Healthy Lifestyle Programme.
On the 6th and 7th of September we participated in the ‘Healthy Lifestyle Programme’. This is a two day programme that thought us about how to lead ourselves to a healthy and happy lifestyle and future. It thought us how to push ourselves to do our best and to eliminate failure in our lives.
The programme was run by a veteran of the Irish Permanent Defence Force, Jeff Allen and nutritionist Agatha H. Caubin.
Jeff was very enthusiastic about his job and very positive. This spread throughout the group on the two days and everyone tried their best even though they mightn’t have wanted to do the fitness exercises or the ‘Hunter Games’. He encouraged the whole group to do our best and to work with each other (even though a lot of us wanted to walk not run). He did not mind what we did during the games as long as we were doing as much as we could and performed all the time. He introduced the concept of ‘storming’. This was very effective of the group as everyone thought it was funny and was explained very well. We learned that the concept ‘storming’ was blocking or stamping out negativity or problems and not let anyone walk over you.
Agata was very interesting in her nutrition talks. She taught us about the foods that have empty calories and no nutritional value and which foods to look out for as they have simple or complex carbohydrates. Her talks were nice to rest after all the running we did and the the mindfulness meditation was very interesting to try.
Overall, I found that the HealthyLifestyle Programme was very effective to our group and to myself as I now know more about keeping healthy and how to act in groups. I would reccommend it to other people in different schools to try it as its very fun and bring people closer toghether as a group. If i was to change anything about it I would like to have Agata talk about nutrition more as it was very interesting and beneficial.
